A-G LABEL CHANGE – ‘MAXIMUM CONFUSION’

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009
A vote by MEPs today (Wednesday) to keep the familiar A-G energy labelling format for televisions, but not for fridges, flies in the face of commonsense and will create maximum customer confusion, said the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

Resolved Question: This is the start of my new story; please tell me what you think along with any other suggestions!?

Prologue ‘Models are expected to float, therefore surviving, and here you are, as far as we can see, drowning…’ I finished off. ‘…unfortunately’, Lydia chimed in, folding and refolding her hands nervously. I laughed once, humourlessly. ‘This is the fashion industry, so a goal to survive is crucial.’ I was finishing her off. I wanted to finish her off. What I would have paid to see her walk away from the studio, the endless agencies, the money, the fame, the title. She rose slowly from her place in between the two redheads who had worked with us that week on the shoot for Armani. Any second now I thought. She turned; her sharp, pixie-like profile was black and opaque in the dim lights. A silhouette I thought fading into the background. Without a second glance at me, she began to push her way to the back door. Then everything slowed down; her runway lope turned into a slow motion strut that you see put to music on last season’s blockbusters, the noise blaring from the oversized speakers seemed to quieten; the figure at the door. It raised a hand, pointed a slim object into the crowd. You could have mistaken the bang that followed for a crash of drums that entwined with Bon Jovi’s You Give Love A Bad Name, but it was unmistakable and all too real, when the girl I had just shown the door to, fell to the floor. Chapter One: It wasn’t great, I’ve got to admit. I own two horses and half a English estate, so you could say I’m very used to being out in all weathers – but this was pathetic. I was stood in a huddle of four others, one of which being my best friend, Lydia Tomlinson. We wore carrier-bag material ponchos, the type you get on a water ride at theme parks, over this season’s Chanel. It was not raining as such, just drizzling. The drizzle that makes your eyeliner run, and wets you through, and seems to be able to soak through waterproofs. In the middle of Central Park, New York, waiting for it to stop, so the camera men could finally take the sheets off their technology and start doing what they are paid to do.
