I asked this question this morning, and all I got were a bunch of cat ladies telling me that I was a horrible person: I am going to try again, hopefully getting some better responses.

I just moved into an apartment last month with my girlfriend. She insisted we get cats, even though there is a rule against having pets. My landlord is going to be here today, and we have to hide the kittens as a result. He is coming at 6, so we were going to put the cats into hiding at 5:45, and we don't expect him to be here for more than twenty minutes, so they should be in hiding for 35 minutes. An hour tops.

Because we just moved here, we do not have any friends who we can ask to cat sit. And we are broke, and not going to put them in one of those pet hotel type things. We are going to put them one of those plastic cat carriers. Put that into a box. And put that box into our car (either the trunk or the back seat - not sure yet).

Kinda cruel? Yes. But it has to be done. I don't want to get an angry response from you telling me how terrible I am for doing this to my cats. THEY ARE CATS. As long as they don't die, I don't care if they have to suffer through an hour of being uncomfortable.

While keeping them in the car, I am going to:
1. Park in the shade.
2. Put an ice pack in their crate.
3. A big bag of ice in the box, next to the crate.
4. Make sure they have water to drink.

My question to you: Is there anything else I should do for them? Again, I'm not going to go really far out of my way to make sure they are comfortable. But I don't want them to get sick or anything.

So yeah... suggestions?

Additional Info:
-Landlord lives out of state, so if we keep them a secret today, he wont find out about them.
-A few people suggested I "just move" last time I posted this. That is ridiculous, don't suggest it. I'm not relocating to save my two kittens from half an hour of heat.
It's pretty cool out - It's not like I'm leaving them in the back of a car when it is 110 degrees outside. I really doubt they will die "in 15 minutes" as someone commented.
The reason I am putting them in an additional box is to keep people from seeing that I put cats in my car. I would rather no one think "those poor kittens" as they walk by. But air holes are a good idea. :)

A week ago, we launched a community forum for Alfred and I couldn’t be happier to have done so.

This series of post covers why we chose to start a forum, as well as some tips for setting up and running your own successful community forum.

Part I: Why and when should I start my own community forum?
Part II: Setting up your forum: Top tips for using Get Satisfaction
Part III: Making the most of user feedback

Don’t forget to sign up to the RSS feed if you don’t want to miss the rest of the series!

Why choose a forum

When we launched Alfred, our main means of support for users was Twitter. When we needed more than 140 characters, we’d swap over to email.

As our community grew, once we found ourselves with a few thousand users reading our tweets (gasp!), yet many asked the same question frequently (eg. Will you be adding x feature?) because they hadn’t seen the older answer to it.

Let’s face it: Twitter is today’s news but tomorrow’s virtual chip paper. It was time to look for a new way to provide answers. That isn’t to say we’ve entirely dropped email; on the contrary, we’re now able to focus email responses on those who really need one-on-one answers.

We chose a forum because it allowed us to answer publicly, leaving longer-lasting, more valuable answers which could be revisited the product evolved. So is a forum right for everyone?

Red Light: Not Now

There are a few key pieces of the puzzle needed to start a forum on the right foot. Here are a few hints that the time might not be quite right.

1. It’s quiet in here!

Too few active users in your forum give newcomers the impression that nobody uses the app and that it might not be actively developed. One-on-one emails with users or a private beta testers’ space can help you get more in-depth feedback, allowing you to improve quickly until you have enough buzz to warrant a public forum.

2. Starting in a time of crisis

If your users are up in arms about something that’s wrong or bad with your product, it may be challenging to change the tone of the forum once the problem is resolved. Try to start your forum in a time of peace and positivity so that the first few exchanges set the tone for constructive, helpful communication.

3. Changing behaviour

If you’ve encouraged the same behaviour for a long time – for example, emailing you for support – you’ll need to signpost your forum well to direct users to the new home for discussions. This isn’t so much a problem as a change of routine, both for yourself and for users who’ve gotten used to emailing you at their every whim.

Green Light: Let’s Go!

On the other hand, what are the hints that it’s time to stop, <del datetime="2010-09-08T14:23:42+00:00">collaborate and listen</del> and change the way you interact with your users.

1. You’ve answered the same question more than three times

Sounds familiar? If you’ve had to email users back with the same answer a few times, your product is probably ripe for a forum environment or, at the very least, a clear FAQ.

Tip: For common answers or short snippets you find yourself typing often, consider a tool like TextExpander to save your fingers and your sanity.

2. You must make time

Can you afford a few minutes a day to review the comments you’ve received and respond to them? Usually, that’s all it takes; a quick sweep of the latest questions, a few replies and thank you’s. It’s easy to forget or let it get deprioritised but you should do it as regularly as brushing your teeth – twice a day.

When releasing new features, for example, you need to plan to spend a bit longer listening and answering as you’ll get a burst of interest.

3. Your users can help

In every community, there are a few super-helpful users. Talk to them and see how you can turn them into customer champions. Encourage them to answer questions and thank them profusely and publicly. Sometimes, that’s all the recognition they need!

4. You can take action on feedback

By this, I don’t mean that you’ll take every suggestion and implement it right away. (In fact, we’ll look in Part III at why this is a bad idea!) You simply need to be able to show users that bug fixes are taken seriously and that at least some of the sensible and suitable feature requests are considered.

Get started now

That said, it’s never too early to talk to your users. While a forum may not be right for your product yet, even the smallest seedling of a community should be nurtured.

I’ll never forget the first handful of Alfred users who bravely downloaded an app no one had ever heard of, the first donators or the bloggers who first took the time to write about us. Without these early adopters, a product goes nowhere. Thank these people often and be genuine about it.

Think you’re ready to launch your own forum? In the next post, we’ll talk about choosing the right forum and why we decided to adopt Get Satisfaction. I’ll also share the tips and tricks I’ve discovered since we launched our own.

Need help getting in touch with your community and finding the right communication channels for your product or service?

Pepsmedia, the company I co-founded, offers these services. We can help you build better relationships with your users and discover who your own fans are, so get in touch!

I work in a Bingo hall, while not at university. I study journalism and am always looking for stories. Now, what I need help in turning into a story is the fact that I have seen this woman and her elderly mother coming into the bingo (it's a big place, holds 1000) with a carrier bag full of cigarettes, usually quite well concealed, but I am sometimes the door man so am able to glance in. Ok, her bag is basically full of packets of cigarettes.

I have also seen the woman walk up and sit next to another and pass over two pouches of tobacco.

So i think this woman is selling it to the punters. She's in EVERY single day, and usually attends the morning, noon and evening sessions.

I asked one of my work mates if they sold the tobacco here and he said yes, they do. I also was outside one day, one of my managers was smoking and they told another they got the cigarettes of the woman.

So the mangement of this bingo hall are condoning and buying and selling the cigarettes? Surely this is something that could be exposed. I've only worked here since June and would sacrefice the job just to expose this.

But is it worth it? What angle could I take for this? I was thinking of going and asking around with my dictaphone in my pocket and seeing what I could find out.

Thoughts? Thanks a LOT :)
Edit: This woman could potentially be living off the profits she makes, if she's taking in an entire carrier bag full. And she is here every day. I seriously doubt she has a job of any kind.
@da'zone

My career is not in working in a bingo hall. I would sacrefice it for a decent enough story.

And it's not for money. I do this purely out of my own desire to expose corruption and bring the story to the people.
Also, looking for proper answers. Not piss takes or trolling.

Today was my first day back in school. All day people have been commenting on my hair because I now have a side fringe instead of a full fringe. People I don't even know have said "You look pretty". I hate attention so this annoyed me. And I know I should be happy with people saying that but I hate attention. Then I saw my best friend Anna and she gave me a present from her holiday in Benadorm. It was a snow globe (I collect them and have nearly 30) with a cartoon looking 3D bull inside. I put it in 3 layers of bubble wrap and then wraped it in a carrier bag. It was fine all day untill dinner (lunch depending on were you live). In the que to get food all the new year sevens were pushing. One boy pushed Anna into me and my bag wacked against the wall. I didnt think anything of it untill water started dripping down my leg...The snowglobe had smashed :'(
My new pencil case, pencils, books, notebook and planner were ruined and my new bag was soaked. At the end of the day me and Anna went to the toilets because it was my only chance to sort my bag out. Then when we were walking out of school we saw our bus driving away with Anna's little sister waving in the window. We also caught a glimpse of my big brother in the back of the bus though he did not see us. It just so happens that on this day we had no mobile phone. Since none of us have family in the town my school is in we had to walk all the way up town to our friends house to borrow the phone. The walk was 40 minites! When I finnaly got home I went to my room to get dressed then I fell down the stairs. My mum shouted at me for missing the bus and recking my new stuff. I also have to have my least favourite maths teacher and my least favourite music teacher for those subjects. Have any of you had bad luck in school?

I have a kitten she is around 3 months old and she keeps peeing in random places but mostly my bed. She does use her litter box most of the time. But I have recently just moved house to a studio flat her litter box in in the kitchen with her food etc. She has developed to peeing on my bed, carrier bags if on the floor too. I use tray liners under the grit in her litter box which I think could be the confusion with carrier bags are they are both made of polythene so I have stopped using these.

I have had to change my bed twice in the last 4 days and get my quilt washed. The last couple of days I have no option ut to shut her in the kitchen while I am not home but I do not like doing this as I can be away for 8 hours at work and my kitchen is not the biggest.

I have tried butting her in her box after mealtimes and first thing in the Morning and last thing at night but seems to make no difference she still does it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
